John Mellencamp filed for divorce from Elaine Irwin Mellencamp two weeks after the couple announced they’d split up.
The filing was handled in Brown County, Indiana, last Friday, according to People.
It was ‘a good place to file because this is a very quiet and out of the way,’ a lawyer familiar with the case told the mag Wednesday.
On New Year’s Eve, when the couple released a statement that their 18-year marriage was ending, it was unclear whether papers had been officially filed.
Mellencamp has been low-key dating Meg Ryan for about two months -- with the heartland rocker reportedly separated from his third wife before getting together with the actress.
