Tex Winter, Dennis Rodman among 2011 Basketball Hall of Fame class

Former Lakers assistant coach and innovator of the triangle offense Tex Winter is among 10 new members elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Someone else with Lakers ties, former player Dennis Rodman, will join Winter in the Class of 2011, which was formally announced Monday at the NCAA Final Four in Houston.
Other newly elected members include five-time NBA all-star Chris Mullin, longtime NBA and ABA star Artis Gilmore, former Portland TrailBlazers center Arvydas Sabonis, four-time Olympic gold medalist Teresa Edwards, Harlem Globetrotter Reece “Goose” Tatum and Boston Celtic Tom “Satch” Sanders. Philadelphia University Coach Herb Magee and Stanford women’s Coach Tara VanDerveer will also be inducted with the class in Springfield, Mass., in August.
Winter, 89, won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and three more with the Lakers on Phil Jackson‘s staff. He also won 454 college games and went 51-78 as coach of the Houston Rockets from 1972-74.
The eccentric Rodman, who won five NBA titles with the Bulls and Detroit Pistons before playing 27 games with the Lakers late in his career, wore a tan vest with leopard and tan scarves over a white shirt with gold sequined cuffs (unbuttoned and knotted at the waist) to Monday’s announcement ceremony.
