Southwestern Bell: The telecommunications company ported earnings of $223.9 million, down 9.6% from the first quarter of 1990. Revenue totaled $2.14 billion, up slightly from $2.13 billion. The St. Louis-based company, which provides telephone service in Missouri, OklAhoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Texas, noted that its profit a year ago was swollen by a onetime $26-million gain from a favorable change in interstate access rates. Without that gain, the firm’s earnings for the period this year would have been about even with year-earlier levels.
