Katz to Coach Westminster Girls

WESTMINSTER — Dick Katz, boys’ basketball coach at Westminster High School for eight years, has resigned and will become the school’s girls’ basketball coach.
Katz will continue as an assistant to Jim Greenfield at Golden West College. Katz has assisted with the Golden West men’s team the past two seasons.
“These are new challenges, which is something I need at this point in my career,” Katz said. “I coached the boys’ team for eight years, which is the longest tenure of any basketball coach in the school’s history.
“I’m proud of the fact that we won 10 or more games three times and made the playoffs twice. We didn’t have great records, teams or talent at Westminster, but we always played hard. Maybe the boys’ program needs some new blood.”
Katz, whose boys’ team was 7-18 last season, inherits a girls’ program that hasn’t won a Sunset League game in three years.
