DANA POINT : Parking Problem Yields Compromise

A compromise of sorts has apparently solved a nagging neighborhood dispute over parking on Doheny Place.
The City Council voted unanimously this week to overturn a city staff recommendation and prohibit parking on the coast side of the two-block street, with the exception of eight spaces next to Pines Park.
The parking problem stemmed from a city ordinance that went into effect last April that limits parking to one side of the street on streets narrower than 30 feet. Because Doheny Place, which is in the Palisades section of Capistrano Beach, is 24 feet wide, the council had to choose the side on which parking would be allowed.
The council promised to review the situation in six months to see whether the compromise is working.
