Girl Hit by Border Patrol Truck Stable

SAN ONOFRE — A 6-year-old Santa Clarita girl, who was hit by a U.S. Border Patrol truck while camping here Saturday, was expected to be released from a hospital as early as today.

Jasmin Treadway was reported in stable condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where she was being treated for a broken pelvic bone and a concussion.

Hospital spokeswoman Wendy Harle said the child might be released to her parents either today or Wednesday.

Jasmin was taken to the hospital by helicopter Saturday night after she was struck by a Border Patrol truck at 6:20 p.m., said Officer Jerry Bohrer, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

Bohrer said Jasmin was playing with a ball near a road leading to San Onofre State Beach, where her family was camping. According to the CHP, she dropped the ball, which rolled into the street and directly in front of the truck.

Bohrer said Border Patrol Agent Elizabeth Soto, 24, was driving about 30 m.p.h. and did not have enough time to swerve completely around the child. He added that Soto was on routine patrol and was not pursuing anyone when the accident occurred. She was not cited.

“The responsibility for the accident lies with the pedestrian,” Bohrer said.
