Check Wasn’t Late, After All: Earlier this week, John Wayne Airport officials were complaining that America West Airlines was tardy with its monthly rent check for airport facilities. The $297,768 check was supposed to have arrived no later than Monday. But it was not late, after all. Airport officials said Friday that the financially ailing airline was not overdue with its first rental check since filing for bankruptcy in June. The problem was at the airport’s end. It seems that the airport’s accounting office moved over the weekend. America West’s check was delivered to the old address. It took several days for it to catch up with the bookkeepers. “That whole thing was overblown,” airport spokeswoman Courtney Wiercioch said Friday. “We have no comment, except we’re glad its resolved,” America West spokeswoman Daphne Dicino said.
