Blaber recorded 35 goals in six games. He scored four goals, including the game winner, in Wilson’s 8-7 non-league win over Foothill, then recorded eight goals as Wilson defeated Poly, 14-7, to clinch the Moore League title for the 15th consecutive year. He scored another 23 goals in four games to lead his team to a second-place finish in the John Felix Memorial Tournament in Northern California. The tournament brings together the top eight teams from Southern California and the top eight teams from Northern California. Wilson lost the final game to defending champion Alta Loma, 13-9. Ricardo Azevado said, “He (Blaber) is the best two-meter man I’ve coached in 10 years.”
Other top prep performers:
Rick Jones, Valley Christian running back, scored two touchdowns and gained 178 yards as the Crusaders defeated Olympic League football rival Ontario Christian, 24-7.
Mike Moschetti, quarterback for the La Mirada High football team, connected on 12 of 21 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns as the Lancers defeated Mayfair, 47-13, to run their Suburban League record to 3-0.
