A motorist was killed Tuesday night in Lancaster when he turned his car into the path of a county Sheriff’s Department squad car, authorities said.
Thomas Springer, 35, of Lancaster was driving his car east along Avenue I when he made a left-hand turn into Friendly Village Trailer Park about 5:15 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau.
Officials said the car was broadsided by the black-and-white sheriff’s vehicle from the department’s Antelope Valley station. The sheriff’s vehicle was heading west on Avenue I, authorities said.
Springer, who authorities said was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center at 9:30 p.m. The deputy and several passengers in a third car were treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.
