Pass in Final Two Minutes Gives Brethren Christian Share of Title

CERRITOS — Brethren Christian quarterback Reggie Davis completed only one pass on four attempts Friday night. He only needed one.
In the final two minutes, Davis was under pressure when he threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Scott Thomas to help the Warriors beat Cerritos Valley Christian, 14-12, in the Olympic League championship game at Cerritos Valley Christian.
The victory gives Brethren (7-3, 4-1) a share--with Whittier Christian--of its first Olympic title since 1982. It is also the first time the Warriors defeated Valley Christian (8-2, 3-2) on the Crusaders’ field.
“That one completion is all that matters. God helped us all the way: I did whatever it took to beat (two defenders) and Scott--a great leaper--had what it took to get the ball,” Davis said.
Valley Christian scored 12 points on its first three possessions. A six-yard touchdown by Rick Jones (30 carries, 166 yards) with 2:53 left in the third quarter gave the Crusaders the lead, 12-7.
