Taft 36, Cleveland 19--Jerry Brown rushed for 86 yards in 14 carries and scored once for Taft, but turnovers cost Cleveland (2-7, 0-7) the game against the host Toreadors. Taft (6-4, 4-3) recovered four Cleveland fumbles, including one in the end zone for a touchdown, and earned a share of the West Valley League title with Chatsworth.
Taft quarterback Mike Ferguson completed six of 12 for 59 yards, and also ran one yard for a touchdown. He threw a nine-yard touchdown strike to Dion Gaston to give Taft a 28-7 lead in the second quarter.
Cleveland’s Derrick Dumas opened the game with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also scored on runs of 20 and nine yards, and gained 57 yards in 11 carries.
