JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Callahan Spurs Antelope Valley With 3 Early Touchdown Passes
- Share via
Antelope Valley College’s Ryan Callahan threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter and the Marauders held on to defeat host Citrus, 45-32, in a Foothill Conference game Saturday night.
Callahan capped Antelope Valley’s opening drive with a two-yard pass to Greg Graham and before the quarter ended connected on touchdown passes of 21 yards to David McCovy and 78 yards to LaMart Cooper.
Antelope Valley’s success with the pass came as a surprise because the Marauders had been averaging only slightly more than 100 yards a game. Callahan passed for 207 yards in the first quarter and finished 11 of 19 for 236 yards.
In keeping its bowl hopes alive, Antelope Valley (6-2-1, 5-2 in conference play) racked up 438 yards against a Citrus defense that had not allowed more than 10 points in a conference game.
Citrus (5-2-2, 5-1-1) trailed, 21-0, and twice rallied to within a touchdown.
