Image Entertainment Reports $622,884 Loss

Image Entertainment Inc. said its fiscal second-quarter loss widened to $622,884, from a loss of $199,109 a year earlier, despite a 32% jump in sales.

The Chatsworth distributor of movies and other programming on laser disc said sales in the quarter that ended Sept. 30 climbed to $16.9 million from $12.8 million a year earlier.

But higher sales of products with low profit margins, together with higher overhead and financing costs, produced the latest loss, Image said.

Image, which said it is “adopting new measures to reduce operating expenses,” lost $2.30 million in the first half of its fiscal year, compared with a year-earlier loss of $681,748, and its six-month sales rose 19% to $26.7 million from $22.5 million.
