Associated Press

Kansas will play Brigham Young in the Aloha Bowl on Christmas Day.

Bowl officials made the announcement after Nebraska beat Oklahoma, 33-9, Friday. Oklahoma needed a victory to get the Big Eight Conference berth in the bowl game.

Kansas (7-4) finished its regular season last Saturday with a 22-17 loss to Missouri. BYU (8-4), co-champion of the Western Athletic Conference, defeated Utah, 31-22, last week.

It will be Kansas’ first bowl appearance since 1981.

“They’ve worked hard to come back from not being very good a few years ago and improved steadily together,” said Kansas Athletic Director Bob Frederick. “This is wonderful for them and for the coaches as well.”
