Golden West Advances in Regional Water Polo

Nadine Akers and Lisa Saenz each scored five goals to help Golden West defeat Riverside, 17-3, in a semifinal game of the Southern California Regional women’s water polo tournament Thursday at Belmont Plaza.
The Rustlers (32-1) are top-ranked in the state and advanced to Saturday’s regional final to play Orange Coast at 6:15 p.m. at Belmont Plaza. Golden West defeated Orange Coast in their last meeting, 14-4.
The teams have already qualified for the state tournament which is Nov. 14-14 at Ohlone College.
In the other semifinal:
Orange Coast 6, Grossmont 5--Morgan Meyer scored with 1 minute 24 seconds remaining to lift the Pirates into the final. Jackie Tran scored three points, including a two-point goal, and Meyer had two goals for Orange Coast (23-7-1).
