In the Pacific Coast League finals:
Bugescu defends title--Sophomore Etel Bugescu of University defeated top-seeded Jessica Prause of Laguna Hills, 6-2, 6-1, at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Top-seeded Lucy Molnar and Annie Pham of University won the doubles title.
In the South Coast League finals:
Esmero wins title--Mater Dei’s Melissa Esmero, the top-seeded player in singles, defeated Dana Hills’ Amber Tantee, 6-4, 6-1, at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club. Dana Hills’ Kate Romm and Amy Tranckino won in doubles.
In the Freeway League boys’ cross-country finals:
Sonora wins--Senior Heriberto Sarabia finished the three-mile course in a course-record 14 minutes 47 seconds to lead Sonora to the title.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago repeats--Santiago successfully defended its league title on Mile Square Park’s three-mile course. La Quinta’s Robert Ellis won in 15:11.
In the Olympic League:
Gavin wins--Sophomore Taylor Gavin won in 16:17 for Orange Lutheran, which won its third consecutive league title.
In the Freeway League girls’ cross-country finals:
Garritson wins--Buena Park’s Heather Garritson won in 18:00, breaking her course-record of 18:19 she set last year. Lisa Dunn (18:14) finished second for Troy, which edged Buena Park, 42-43.
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica wins--Pacifica repeated as league champions, although Rancho Alamitos senior Berenice Carbajal won the three-mile race at Mile Square Park in 18:06.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran wins--The Lancers won their eighth consecutive league title though Tiffany Kahnen of Cerritos Valley Christian won the race in 19:33.
