Oil Companies Get Fined but Drivers Foot the Bill
- Share via
What am I missing? Oil companies that do wrong are assessed a multimillion-dollar judgment [“Jury Says 6 Oil Firms Must Pay Unocal in Suit,” Nov. 4] because they apparently stole secrets from Union Oil. But instead of making sure that the wrongdoers take the money from the shareholders of the bad guys, or the perpetrators, we are told that the price of gasoline will go up to pay the fines.
What kind of punishment is that? Outrageous! They should be held responsible for their own actions and not be allowed to pass on those costs to the public. Where is the accountability?
