Rex Prescott rushed for a school-record 272 yards and three touchdowns, helping Eastern Washington clinch a tie for the Big Sky Conference football championship with a 31-14 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday night at Flagstaff, Ariz.
Northern Arizona, which probably was eliminated from Division I-AA playoff contention, trailed, 21-0, before making a run at the Eagles in the final 16 minutes.
Travis Brown connected on touchdown pass plays of 27 yards to Ray Flores with 38 seconds left in the third quarter and 41 yards to Francis St. Paul with 9:06 left to pull the Lumberjacks to within 24-14.
Eastern Washington ended any suspense on Prescott’s two-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left.
Prescott ran 80 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game and added an eight-yard score with 3:40 left in the quarter for a 14-0 lead.
It could have been worse but Josh Atwood of Eastern Washington missed two field goal attempts and was lining up for a third when the first half ended.

Cal Poly SLO 20, Montana State 19--Alan Beilke kicked a 50-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to lift the Mustangs in a nonconference game at Bozeman, Mont.
Montana State held a 19-17 lead but a bad snap led to a botched field-goal attempt that gave Cal Poly (8-1) the ball on its nine-yard line with 1:59 left. The Mustangs drove 58 yards to set up Beilke’s kick.
Cal Poly, an independent ranked 23rd in NCAA Division I-AA, trailed, 13-0, in the second quarter before Alli Abrew hit Kamil Loud on a 50-yard touchdown pass play. Abrew’s one-yard run gave Cal Poly a 14-13 halftime lead.

Beilke drew Cal Poly close with a 42-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.
