An Orient-Express Trip to the Past
The famous Paris-to-Istanbul luxury train trip launched in 1883 by the Orient-Express is being re-created next year by the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The route was last run in the 1970s, said a spokesman for Venice Simplon, whose standard route is London to Venice.
As of last week, the five-day, four-night eastbound trip, departing Aug. 28 from Paris, was sold out, but there was space on the return trip, which leaves Istanbul on Sept. 2 and ends in Venice instead of Paris. Fares start at $3,800 per person, double occupancy, including meals and guided sightseeing. Reservations: (800) 524-2420.
