GIRLS’ TENNIS

Twenty-three first-round playoff matches involving county teams will be played today, weather permitting. The Southern Section’s regionalized format was supposed to set up closer geographical meetings, at least in the early rounds. But only seven of the 23 matches involve county vs. county matchups.

Those seven all-county contests are Fountain Valley at top-seeded Corona del Mar in Division I; Los Amigos at fourth-seeded Laguna Hills, Valencia at Garden Grove, Savanna at third-seeded Villa Park, El Dorado at Foothill and Canyon at Brea Olinda in Division III, and La Quinta at La Habra in Division IV. All matches begin at 2 p.m.
