San Francisco-based Gap Inc. said third-quarter earnings rose a better-than-expected 22% on higher back-to-school sales at its Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy stores. Net income rose to $164.5 million, or 62 cents a share, from $134.3 million, or 48 cents, a year ago, beating analysts’ estimates. . . . Marina del Rey-based Quarterdeck Corp. reported a fiscal fourth-quarter net loss of $16.7 million, including charges, or 39 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $54.8 million, including charges, or $1.53 cents, a year ago. . . . Gregory Catrambone has been named president and chief executive of El Monte-based Sargent Fletcher Inc. . . . Los Angeles-based Aames Financial Corp. named David Sklar chief financial officer, succeeding Gregory Witherspoon, who was named executive vice president.
