School Board to Weigh Options on Superintendent Search
- Share via
The board of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District may decide Tuesday when and how it will search for a new superintendent.
Board members said they have several options: they may open a nationwide search for a new chief administrator, they may hire from within the district, or they may hire a temporary replacement for Supt. Mac Bernd.
Bernd announced last week that he was taking a job as the top administrator at Arlington (Texas) Independent School District. He will succeed Lynn Hale, who will retire Dec. 31.
Bernd began as Newport-Mesa’s superintendent in 1993, just as the district was recovering from a $4-million embezzlement by Stephen Wagner, then the district’s top finance officer.
The board meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Newport-Mesa Education Center, 2985 Bear St., Costa Mesa. Information: (714) 424-5000.
