No Simmering Over Streak

If anyone was going to match his streak of scoring a goal in 13 consecutive games, Charlie Simmer hoped it would be Teemu Selanne. But Selanne’s chase stopped at 11 in the Mighty Ducks’ 4-3 overtime loss Wednesday to Montreal.
“I really wished him all the best,” said Simmer, now a TV commentator for the Phoenix Coyotes. “He’s such a good person, really a great person first and a great hockey player second. He’s a great, great player to watch.”
Simmer scored in 13 consecutive games while a member of the Kings’ famed Triple Crown line in 1979-80. He said he didn’t even realize he had a streak going until the Kings played Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens in the 10th game of the streak and reporters began asking him about it.
“I think you really have to have a lot of things going for you [to maintain a long streak],” he said. “There have been a lot of pretty good players who haven’t done it.”

Duck Coach Pierre Page counts new Vancouver Coach Mike Keenan among his many friends.
“I like Mike,” Page said. “I always saw the good things in Mike. Players who won with him can tell you all the good things about him. But for some reason we all hear the bad things. A lot of skilled players in the league deserve to be coached by Mike Keenan because he pushes them right to the limit.”
