Cemetery’s Lawyer Files Motion to Abandon Site

Plans to lay to rest the bankruptcy saga of Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery--the resting place of Rudolph Valentino, Tyrone Power and Jayne Mansfield--hit a snag Friday when a lawyer for the property’s court-appointed trustee filed a motion to abandon the site.
The motion followed a bankruptcy hearing at which an attorney for the bank that holds the 98-year-old cemetery’s mortgage told a judge that the bank had not yet decided whether to accept the latest offer for the property.
“Based on the facts I have today, unless there is a sale, the facility will be abandoned,” said David Isenberg, an attorney for the cemetery’s trustee.
At an auction Wednesday, a Vallejo businessman bid $275,000 for the cemetery--$225,000 less than the minimum price set by the bank. A hearing on the motion of abandonment is scheduled Dec. 10.
