Red Cross Offers Pet First Aid Tips

First aid works on pets too.
So the Red Cross plans a seminar Nov. 22 to teach animal owners how to treat their pets.
Participants will be introduced to basic pet first aid techniques, including how to approach an injured animal, make a muzzle, stop puncture wounds from bleeding, treat snake and insect bites, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Another focus is handling pets in disasters. Special attention will be paid to flooding because heavy rainfall is expected this winter.
Participants also can learn how to assemble disaster kits for their pets.
Pet Safety Day is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Orange County Red Cross, 600 N. Parkcenter Drive, Santa Ana.
The course is free.
