The Poly High football team learned Friday that it used an ineligible player, lineman George Lomavita, who is one of the team’s emotional leaders. The Parrots’ three victories will have to be forfeited and their playoff hopes might be over. Here’s a look at their turmoil and triumphs:
THE STREAK
Nov. 10, 1995: After beating Grant, 34-20, Poly doesn’t win on field for almost two years.
NEW BEGINNING
August, 1997: Poly alums Bobby Mesa and Lee Jackson take over program as co-coaches.
THE VICTORY
Oct. 24, 1997: Poly, loser of 16 straight, beats North Hollywood, 27-16, to begin three-game winning streak.
THE GAME
Oct. 31, 1997: Poly defeats Grant, 40-29, for its second consecutive victory.
THE FAX
Nov. 13, 1997: Grant notifies Poly that George Lomavita is ineligible to play because more than four years have passed since his freshman year.
THE FORFEITS
Nov. 14, 1997: Poly forfeits all three victories when found to have used an ineligible player.
