DeVera Advances in Tennis Tournament

Arizona State’s Faye DeVera and Reka Cseresnyes advanced to the second round in doubles at the ITA Rolex Regionals at UC Irvine.
DeVera, a 1997 Villa Park High graduate, and Cseresnyes defeated San Diego’s Steffi Hesse and Millie Prior, 9-8, to advance to today’s second round.
The top-four seeded singles players all advanced, including top-seeded Amanda Basica of UCLA, who defeated Pepperdine’s Nadine Rastetter, 6-1, 6-2.
UC Irvine’s Natalie Exon lost in the first round to second-seeded Zuzana Lesenarova of San Diego, 6-1, 6-1.
In NCAA Division III women’s volleyball playoffs:
La Verne 3, Chapman 2--Chapman’s bid for a berth in the NCAA Division III West regional championship match ended in the semifinals with a 6-15, 15-12, 8-15, 15-4, 16-14, loss to host La Verne. Chapman’s Monica Girard had 14 kills.
