Beach Wheelchairs

Joanna M. Miller’s article on her sister’s birthday at the beach was wonderful (“Good Times Roll,” Weekend Escape, Sept. 7). It is nice to see people using the beach wheelchairs. My girlfriend Pat DeMar (who has ALS) and I have been raising money for the last four years to buy these chairs and donate them to the beaches. Our goal is to place 100 of these chairs. Currently, there are chairs at the Newport Beach Pier, San Clemente, Manhattan Beach Pier and Santa Cruz, among others.
