NORFOLK STATE (0-1) at PEPPERDINE (1-0), 7 p.m.--Pepperdine shot 37.3% and committed 16 turnovers in a 50-46 victory over UC Irvine on Tuesday. Gerald Brown, playing his first game in two seasons after knee surgery, led the Waves with 13 points but the team’s other guard, Jelani Gardner, made one of eight shots and scored five points in his Pepperdine debut. Norfolk State, playing its first season of Division I basketball, made only 15 of 60 shots in a 70-45 opening loss to St. Francis (Pa.).
