Los Amigos Misses Out on Chances

For Los Amigos Coach Roger Takahashi, it will be difficult to watch the game film today.

“We had so many chances,” Takahashi said.

West Covina South Hills’ defense stonewalled two possible Los Amigos scoring drives in the fourth quarter, defeating Los Amigos, 14-6, Friday in a Southern Section Division VIII first-round game at Garden Grove High.

With less than eight minutes remaining in the game, the Lobos started on their 40-yard line and marched all the way to the Huskies’ one-yard line before losing the ball on downs.

Los Amigos (7-2-1) regained possession with 2:33 left only to turn it over on a failed hook-and-lateral play.

Sophomore quarterback Ryan Leadingham completed 17 of 28 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown for South Hills (9-2).

“He is so poised for a sophomore,” South Hills coach Steve Bogan said.

After reaching Lobo territory for the first time in the first half, South Hills capitalized. Leadingham connected with Andrew Rodriguez on a screen pass for a 47-yard touchdown reception and a 7-3 lead with 3:37 left.

The Lobos trailed, 7-6, with 2:32 left in the third after Jose Perez kicked a 28-yard field goal.
