In another Division II first-round game:
Ayala 21, Littlerock 13--Matt Johnson of Ayala rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns in 27 carries at Walnut High.
Johnson’s five-yard touchdown run with nine minutes to play extended Ayala’s lead to 21-13.
Johnson, a 5-10, 170-pound senior, also had a 20-yard touchdown run late in the first half to give Ayala (10-1) a 14-7 lead.
Johnson’s 11-yard scoring run in the first quarter gave Ayala a 7-0 lead.
Littlerock quarterback Miles Meedon ran one yard for a touchdown with three minutes to play in the first half to tie the score.
David Newton ran 30 yards for a touchdown with 11:13 to play to pull to Littlerock (7-4) to within 14-13.
However, Andrew Ramos’ point-after attempt was wide.
Meedon completed eight of 21 passes for 61 yards and threw three interceptions.
Littlerock drove from its nine-yard line to Ayala’s 40 in the final two minutes before Meedon attempted an unsuccessful desperation pass that was intercepted in the end zone by Julio Moreno.
