Re: Hillary Hauser’s story “Costa Rica” (Oct. 19), I would like to address the issue of tourist-turned-investor.
There are many victims who lost their heads over the dream of living in Eden and lost their shirts in the fever to buy property in Shangri-La!
To acquire affordable, spectacular, tropical property is easy in Costa Rica. But to buy it surveyed, with private title and registered, as opposed to buying stocks or shares in a corporation, is another story. Investment and real-estate scams are common, and rules for buying beachfront property are complicated. I advise potential buyers to seek competent, local legal advice.
