Recall Advocates Back Candidate for Council Post

A group of College Park East residents seeking the recall of Councilwoman Patty Campbell will support longtime resident Arden “Ace” Yeam in a March special election.
Yeam, 70, has lived in College Park East for 30 years and is an ardent supporter of residential development on the controversial Bixby Ranch property, which borders the neighborhood.
The candidate and his associates are seeking the recall of Campbell--who represents the 5,000-resident neighborhood on the council--because they contend she supports a commercial development proposal for the ranch property, off Seal Beach Boulevard.
Campbell, 56, a neighborhood resident for 28 years, said she represents a complex combination of College Park East needs, rather than dwelling solely on the Bixby plan.
The neighborhood’s 3,500 registered voters will go to the polls March 24 in the city’s first recall election in more than two decades. If they support the recall, they will decide who will finish Campbell’s term, which ends in 2000. Yeam is the only candidate at this time, but others could file after Dec. 1.
