Boy, 12, Dies After Being Hit by Car

SANTA CLARITA — A 12-year-old boy was struck by a car while crossing a street Wednesday afternoon and died a short time later at a local hospital.

The Santa Clarita boy, whose name was not released, was crossing Whites Canyon Road with a friend when he was hit by a northbound car driven by a 17-year-old North Hills girl, authorities said.

The boy suffered head injuries and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he later died. The boy’s friend and the teenage driver were not injured, said Lt. Larry Gump.

The accident did not appear to be rain-related. The boys may have darted in front of the car, Gump said. The driver was not cited and an investigation into the crash is continuing.
