Worley Picks Bruins Over the Trojans

Capistrano Valley offensive lineman Blake Worley has made an oral commitment to play for UCLA, his father, Steve, said Wednesday.

Worley had narrowed his choices to UCLA and USC before deciding on the Bruins. “UCLA is losing a couple of offensive tackles, and he felt the opportunity for him to play as a freshman was better there,” his father said.

Worley, 6 feet 7 and 280 pounds, was a first-team all-county selection last year as a junior despite playing only eight games because of an injury.

Adam Bollenbach, a senior at UC San Diego and former Estancia water polo player, has been named to the Western Water Polo Assn.’s first team. Bollenbach helped the Tritons to second place in the conference tournament, losing, 7-6, to UC Davis in the title game.

Rob Mattivi, an Air Force junior from Servite, also was named to the first team.

Nevada wide receiver Geoff Noisy (Irvine High), Utah State offensive lineman Mark Rommel (Villa Park, Santa Ana College) and Utah State linebacker Tony D’Amato (Villa Park, Santa Ana College) were named the All-Big West Conference first team.

Nevada wide receiver Trevor Insley (San Clemente), Utah State quarterback Matt Sauk (Woodbridge, Orange Coast) and Utah State punter Jerry Arguello (Orange, Santa Ana College) were selected to the second team.

Laguna Hills gymnast Alison Stoner has signed a letter of intent to attend UCLA next year.

Stoner, who trains at the National Training Center under coaches Zin Kinolik and Debra Hutchinson, began her gymnastics career just six years ago. She qualified for the 1996 USA Championships five years later.
