Rigley Has Hot Hand for Waves

Samantha Rigley scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Pepperdine defeated Northern Iowa, 80-70, in a nonconference game Wednesday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Rigley, a junior guard from Alemany High, also had three assists, two steals and blocked a shot. Freshman forward Nesha Thomas had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Waves (2-1).
Sophomore forward Nikki Fields made five of six shots, including three of four three-point baskets, to finish with 13 points for the Waves.
Northern Iowa (4-1) was led by Erin Fox’s 26 points, which included four three-point baskets in the second half.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
East L.A. 72, Valley 70--Pierre Elize missed a layup with 10 seconds to play and the Monarchs fell in a nonconference game at Valley.
Leon Brisport, who scored 27 points for the Monarchs (4-2), rebounded the missed shot but lost the handle on the ball. East L.A. recovered the loose ball and ran out the clock.
Gianandrea Marcaccini had 13 points for Valley, and Germaine Chase had 10.
Glendale 79, Rio Hondo 73--Freshman guard Tony Hoggatts scored 25 points, making 11 of 17 shots, including two three-point baskets, for the Vaqueros in a nonconference game at Rio Hondo.
Sophomore guard Juan Corleto scored 17 points, hitting five of 10 from three-point range for Glendale, which led by 17 points midway through the second half. Sophomore forward Will Ruffin finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Poly 77, Bravo 57--Senior forward Ellis Richardson had 40 points and eight rebounds for the Parrots (1-0) at Bravo (0-1).
