Duval Replaces Couples in Skins Game

Associated Press

Fred Couples, the Skins Game leading money winner, has withdrawn from this weekend’s competition because of the serious illness of his father.

Couples, winner of the Skins Game the last two years, will be replaced by David Duval, the second-leading money-winner on the PGA Tour.

Duval will join Tiger Woods, Tom Lehman and Mark O’Meara in the 15th annual Skins Game at Rancho La Quinta Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.

“We all feel terrible for Fred and his family,” Chuck Gerber, executive producer of the event, said Wednesday. “Fred has been an integral part of the Skins Game and our prayers go out to Fred and his family.”

Duval, 26, won his final three PGA events of the year. He earned $1,885,308--second behind Woods--with seven top-10 finishes in 29 events this year.

Couples has won $1.1 million in seven Skins Games.
