Van Impe Lost to Waiver Move

The Boston Bruins claimed defenseman Darren Van Impe off waivers Wednesday, further eroding the Ducks’ defensive depth. The Ducks apparently had hoped Van Impe would pass through waivers without notice after assigning him to Cincinnati of the American Hockey League.
Van Impe had one goal and four points in 19 games. He was one of several promising young defensemen who were asked to play with a veteran’s savvy.
“He’s a good kid,” Coach Pierre Page said. “Hopefully, he’s with Boston for the rest of the year. . . . We sure didn’t mean to hurt him. We thought a few games in the minors would do him some good.”

Page visited left wing Shawn Antoski, who remained in stable condition at an Orange County hospital after suffering a skull fracture and undergoing surgery after an auto accident early Monday.
“My first reaction is that I hope he’s doing fine,” Page said. “We’re talking about life and death. You’ve got to forget everything else right now and hope he’s OK. But I’ll be the first to tell Shawn when he gets better, ‘I hope you make good choices down the road.’ ”
Antoski’s cousin was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving.
