Los Alamitos (9-2) vs. Mater Dei (11-0)
7:30 TONIGHT
SANTA ANA STADIUM
Los Alamitos defeated Mater Dei in the second round of the 1995 playoffs. It avenged a 1994 semifinal loss to the Monarchs that ended the Griffins’ 47-game unbeaten streak. Since then, Mater Dei has won 25 in a row and is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the second consecutive year. More troubling for Los Alamitos is the offensive balance that John Leonard and Mike McNair provide the Monarchs. They give the Mater Dei a 2,000-yard passer and runner combination. Los Alamitos’ offense, led by quarterback Zach Blazek, will likely provide the stiffest test Mater Dei has faced.
