IRVINE — Super flyweight Pedro Pena of Los Angeles will try to stretch his unbeaten streak to nine in the eight-round main event at 7:30 tonight at the Marriott’s Battle in the Ballroom show.
Pena, the No. 1-ranked amateur in the United States as a 106- and 112-pounder, has won six of his eight fights by knockout. His last fight, against Baldevear Meza at the Los Alamitos Race Course in August, lasted 1 minute 27 seconds.
Pena, 19, will fight Ivan Salazar (13-8, seven knockouts) of Nezahualcoyo, Mexico. Salazar has fought world champions Marco Antonio Barrera and Jesus Chong, but he has not put on the gloves in 3 1/2 years.
In the semi-main event, super middleweight Jamie De La Torre (2-0, one knockout) will fight Kenny Coates (1-1, one knockout) of Riverside in a four-round bout. The undercard will be highlighted by a women’s bout between Mia St. John (5-0, five knockouts) of Los Angeles and Dolores Lira (0-2) of Boise, Idaho.
