Northridge Streak in Baseball Hits Nine

Adrian Mendoza and Mike McNeely hit two-run home runs and Cal State Northridge won its ninth consecutive baseball game, 15-8, over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at Matador Field.
Northridge (21-17) built an 8-2 lead after two innings.
Cal Poly Pomona (11-13-1) closed to within 9-7 with a four-run seventh inning that included a two-run homer by Rocky Asbury.
Mendoza and McNeely each hit their eighth home run of the season in the seventh.
Darren Dyt added a two-run home run in the eighth for the Matadors.
Tim Baron (3-3) pitched five innings of relief.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UCLA def. CS Northridge, 15-9, 15-6, 15-8--Former Notre Dame High star Tom Stillwell had 11 kills and five blocks to help the Bruins (21-3, 14-2) win a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Match at Northridge.
Chad Strickland, in his final Northridge home game, recorded 21 kills for the Matadors (9-13, 5-12). Adam Naeve had 16 kills and Ben Moselle and Evan Thatcher added 15 kills each for UCLA, top ranked in the nation.
The officials failed to show up for the match, so UCLA assistant Mark Knudsen and Northridge assistant Bob Samuelson served as officials.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Valley 108, Pierce 29--Melissa Minkey was a triple winner for Valley (4-3, 3-3) in a Western State Conference meet at home.
Laura Watkins swept the diving events for Pierce.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Valley 58, Pierce 50--Pete Driscoll won the 50-meter freestyle in 22.22 and the 100 freestyle in 49.05 for the Monarchs (4-3, 3-3) in a WSC victory at Valley.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal Lutheran 9, La Verne 0--Cindy Bear and Jill Embree combined for three points and the Regals (2-9, 1-6) won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at La Verne.
