Homicides Up 33% From Last Year, LAPD Reports

Homicides in Los Angeles are up 33% this year, according to crime statistics released Wednesday by the Police Department.
There were 341 homicides through July 6, compared to 257 for the same period last year.
Overall, the rate for serious crimes, including homicides, rapes and robberies, is up 3.8% so far this year, compared to a 5.8% increase for the same period last year.
“Crime is up, but it’s increasing at a slower rate,” said LAPD Cmdr. Gary Brennan.
