Historic District Is an Idea Worth Copying

Re “Latest in Anaheim Is Also What’s Oldest,” July 1:
Thank you for your outstanding article about the Anaheim Historic Colony and Anaheim’s efforts to preserve historic homes with the creation of a historic district and a preservation plan.
It’s great to learn the residents are beginning to reap the benefits of their hard work and the work of the Anaheim City Council and staff.
The increase in property values and the demand for historic homes is a clear indication of the success of Anaheim’s program.
We are struggling with many of the same historical issues in Yorba Linda, where a historic district and Mills Act tax exemptions could benefit historic-home owners in the Park Place neighborhood, adjacent to the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace.
The Park Place neighborhood is similar in area to the Anaheim colony and is close to a historic commercial district with the same potential.
It’s time for Yorba Linda to follow the lead of Anaheim, Orange and Fullerton, which have adopted historic preservation plans that benefit not only the residents but also the community.
