Knowing Manipulation

James Pinkerton’s Republican ideology has led him down the well-trodden path that all conservatives must, and do, eventually self-immolate on: that of denial and rationalization. However, “Nobody Knows? Who Knew?” (Commentary, July 23) is fraught with the now-revealed but, in actuality, always-there revelations that the big boys of industry, finance and government know exactly what is going on. After all, they knew just when to jettison their stock and obtain the mountains of lucre that now cushion their fall from grace.
