Gasoline Prices Continue to Fall

Gasoline prices fell for the seventh consecutive week across the nation, dropping 4.4 cents a gallon to an average pump price of $1.513 a gallon, the U.S. Energy Department said Monday.

California motorists saw a 4.9-cent decrease in the average price to $1.928 per gallon, down from the March 17 peak of $2.145. Last year at this time, the California average was 33.9 cents lower.

The U.S. average price for self-serve regular gasoline was down 21.5 cents from the peak of $1.728 a gallon set on March 17, according to a survey of more than 900 gasoline stations by the Energy Information Administration, the statistical arm of the Energy Department. A year ago, the U.S. average was 11.8 cents lower.

San Francisco was selling the most expensive gasoline of the six major cities surveyed with an average price of $1.986 per gallon. Houston had the cheapest gas at $1.382 a gallon. In Los Angeles, the average price was $1.911 a gallon.
