Can Gov. Gray Davis be a write-in candidate?
No. Because he is the subject of the recall, Davis may not appear as a candidate anywhere on the second half of the ballot.
Write-in candidates, like the 135 candidates whose names will appear on the ballot, must complete an official filing process by Sept. 23 for their write-in votes to be recognized and counted in the official tallies. Election officials will not count the names of write-ins who have not filed proper papers.
Eligible citizens planning to file as write-in candidates must collect 65 signatures.
