West Nile Virus Found in Flock

The first confirmed case of the West Nile virus in Riverside County was detected Friday in four chickens in the city of Mecca, near the Salton Sea, according to health officials.
No evidence exists that the virus from the infected flock has been transmitted to humans or horses, said Dr. Gary Feldman, the county’s health officer.
His department has investigated a human case of the virus, but found that it was acquired in another state.
