Couple Get 25 to Life for Toddler Son’s Death

A woman and her boyfriend were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing their toddler son.
Cheri Hall and her boyfriend, Tye Malecha, were convicted six weeks ago of second-degree murder and child endangerment.
Malecha and Hall sat motionless throughout most of Friday’s hearing before Superior Court Judge David W. Abbott. Authorities said the 19-month-old boy was killed because he wouldn’t stop crying.
Malecha told police he routinely tied his son’s wrists and ankles to the slats of his crib and covered his head with a blanket.
The night the child died, Malecha and Hall told detectives, they overmedicated him with cough syrup, stuffed a towel in his mouth, beat him with plastic cooking utensils and stuffed him in his car seat in the hall closet.
