Milosevic Gets 3 Months to Prepare His Defense

Judges in The Hague gave Slobodan Milosevic three months to prepare his defense against charges he committed war crimes, sparking a protest from the former Yugoslav president, who had requested two years.
Milosevic, who is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Balkans in the 1990s, is expected to launch his defense at the U.N. war crimes tribunal in early 2004. Prosecutors are to end their case this year.
The trial will be adjourned for three months between the closing of the prosecution’s case and the opening of the defense’s case, Judge Richard May said.
