An 18-year-old Mission Viejo man died Wednesday after apparently losing control his motorcycle on Santiago Canyon Road, authorities said.
His name was not released Wednesday because his relatives hadn’t been notified.
Officer Stacy Willits, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol, said the accident occurred at 4:10 p.m. just north of Williams Canyon Road near Orange.
She said she wasn’t sure how fast he was going, but as he tried to make a right turn he ran off the road.
After continuing along a dirt embankment for 21 feet, she said, he hit a tree and was thrown from the motorcycle.
The incident remains under investigation, Willits said.
